Thank you Swindon

Swindon is a much-maligned town (and to be honest, I am as guilty as anyone of maligning it), but scratch beneath the surface and you find an active and thriving music scene.

Take for example The Swindon Shuffle and The Stratton Stroll, both events that the Southern Wild and I have played at recently. Organised by locals, featuring local bands and bringing out the local community, both events were great fun and a showcase of the varied music being made in the area.

Ells and The Southern Wild at The Beehive – Swindon Shuffle Day 4 (Thanks to the Shuffle for the pic!)

So – a massive thank you to everyone who made these events a great success. Keep doing what you’re doing, and keep music alive in Swindon! 🙂

Pictures from Brewery Blues

Many thanks to Steve Fearn for these photos from Brewery Blues last Friday 15th May.

It was a fantastic evening, and it was great to catch up with Ray and Sian of The Black Feathers, and to meet and hear Hattie Briggs for the first time. Huge thanks to The Kings Head, Cirencester for hosting, to John Drummond and the team for the organisation and sound, and to everyone who came and welcomed us so warmly. Thank you x

Gig Announcement – Tonight!

A bit last minute, I know!

Tonight I will be supporting the fabulous Ethemia at The Stonehenge Inn near Salisbury. It will be a solo set, so come on down for some beautiful emotional acoustic music from Ethemia, and the usual noise from me!

See you then, my friends. x

March and April News

Thanks to Tom for bringing The Southern Wild duo to Calne, where we played at The White Hart supporting Jack Moore for his EP release last weekend. We were really warmly received by the White Hart crowd and staff, and are happy to be returning for a full night on Saturday the 4th of April with the full band.

Jack also played a fab set, and you can hear more of his stuff on Soundcloud /jack-moore-music.

Join us on the 4th for a great atmosphere, good beer and live music from E&SW.

And finally, best wishes to Terry from InSitu (Tom’s other band) who’s illness on the night meant that we got to play. Hope you feel better soon Terry!

Talking of other bands, check out Daryl’s new project The Southern Harmony (yes, they blatantly ripped off our name, no, we won’t hold that against them!) – they are on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/thesouthernharmony

Later in April, E&SW will be supporting Mr Love and Justice at the launch of their new release – more details on that coming soon.

Gathering Storm Demo

Posted this up on Soundcloud a little while ago, but I thought I would share it here after having a listen back to it.

This was recorded on my chonky out-of-tune upright piano at home, but gives you an idea of what I’ve been working on. The band and I have been practicing a version of this too, so hopefully it’ll have its live debut soon.

Ends and Beginnings

Festival season is over, bringing an end to a busy run of gigs through July and August – Here’s a couple of pics from the past couple of months:

We’re playing agin this weekend (20th September) at Riffs Bar at the all-day Acoustic Garden event, and have a couple of gigs lined up for October. However, we’re beginning to work on some new songs over the next couple of weeks, so, once they are perfected, we’ll be adding new stuff to our live set soon.

(Ps Thanks Ned Gibbons for the pics that we didn’t take! Check out Ned Gibbons Photography on Facebook for more of his work)

In Which the Southern Wild (and Ells) Meet a Tightrope Walker…

It’s late June, a heat wave has hit Britain and we’re prepping for a very unusual gig – opening the Westonbirt Arboretum Welcome Centre, an event which would be attended by the Duchess of Cornwall. But that’s not what made it unusual – we were also the accompaniment for a tightrope performance by Cirque Bijou.

A very early start the following Monday, and it was time for the real thing! Very surreal (but also very cool) to be watching a man walk a high wire while you’re playing piano almost underneath… we played an extended and amended version of Tangled Waltz, and the whole thing was weird, but kind of magic. And a great excuse to wear a top hat.

We’re looking forward to returning to Westonbirt for this year’s Treefest, where we’ll be performing on Saturday the 23rd August.

His Words Lie Heavy Launch

Ells and The Southern Wild Single Launch

The single launch is tonight! I’m really looking forward to unveiling the band – we have been working really hard, and I think it adds a great deal more depth and contrast to the songs. It’s so great to be able to work with two really talented musicians, so tonight should be epic!

The single itself will be available tonight as physical signed copies, and is also available in digital form on iTunes, CD Baby, and Bandcamp. You can even stream it on Spotify or Soundcloud, if you like. And don’t forget the official video is up on YouTube too.

See you’s laters. xx

Single Launch – June 6th!

Ells and The Southern Wild Single Launch

It’s almost time!

Don’t miss out on The Southern Wild’s first (but most definitely not last!) full performance with me at Riff’s Bar on Friday the 6th June!

The night is part of the fantastic Acoustic Session which takes place at Riffs every Friday, and includes an Open Mic between 7 and 9 – so if you can play, bring along your instruments – and a set from the fab Gilmore and Jaz. Tiggy’s now legendary tapas will be available, and of course, you can get your hands on one of the limited copies of the CD single.

Get in!
